Attention! RCB Alert

‘Note! Today and at night (27/28.07) heavy rainfall. Possible violent river climbs. Prepare to be drowned. Follow weather messages." The RCB alert of this content was sent to the recipients in the Podkarpackie and Lublin Voivodeships – Government Security Centre

Where's the alert?

  • Subcarpathian – whole region
  • Lublin – whole region

This complements earlier warnings issued on Saturday for twelve other voivodships (e.g. Małopolska, Silesia, Mazowieckie).

Forecast: How much rain can it rain?

According to IMGW, it can fall locally as much as 90-120 mm of rain, and wind gusts reach 80 km/h. This sum corresponds to a monthly standard in only 24 hours. This will result in:

  • rapid escalating of smaller rivers and streams
  • submerging properties and cellars
  • road congestion and possible power outages

How to prepare for drowning?

Do it before it rains hard.

  1. Transfer valuables to higher floors.
  2. Check the battery level on your phone – in case of power failure, you will be out of contact.
  3. Park your car in a higher location, away from the trees.
  4. Prepare sandbags – this is the simplest barrier for the water-pressing.

During the rain

  • Listen to local radio/TV and RCB messages – the situation may change from hour to hour.
  • Do not come near the uplifted rivers or flooded passes – 30 cm of water can lift a passenger car.
  • When the water starts entering the house, disconnect the power, gas and water.

Emergency number 112 – when to call?

Notify the service immediately if:

  • Someone needs medical assistance or evacuation,
  • water threatens the residential building,
  • You'll notice a landslide or a broken power line.

What about after the wave?

  • Don't go into flooded rooms until the service shuts down the power.
  • Remove water and mud from the house as soon as possible to reduce mould growth.
  • Take pictures of damage – they will be useful when reporting losses.

The nearest day will bring heavy showers. Residents of Podkarpackie and Lublinie Province should act preventively: secure property, track alerts and call 112 if necessary. Even if you do not live directly by the river, remember that intense rain can turn every street into a creek. Respond in advance – this is the most effective shield before the element.
