Andrzej M., an experienced 71-year-old psychiatrist, was arrested in Wrocław. The man has been charged with issuing as many as 2,000 fake prescriptions. During questioning he admitted to the charges and gave detailed testimony. The Wrocław court granted the prosecutor’s motion and remanded the 71-year-old in custody for two months. The doctor faces up to eight years in prison.
He certified falsehoods in the prescriptions he issued regarding the necessity of patients taking a given drug, knowing that these people were not being treated for a medical condition requiring the prescribed medication, said Karolina Stocka-Mycek, spokeswoman for the Wrocław District Prosecutor’s Office, on Friday.
