On Sunday, August 9, 2026, a dramatic event occurred at Sibiraków Street in Łomża, which almost avoided tragedy. A four-year-old girl found herself on the outside of a balcony on the fifth floor of the block. She hung for a while, holding onto the railing, then lost her strength and fell down.
At the bottom, passersby and neighbors reacted. In a fraction of a second, several men (according to the four accounts) stretched a blanket on the terrace of the ground floor apartment. The little girl fell right on him. The blanket cushioned the fall, although the force of impact caused the child to slightly bounce and touch the ground. That's how the worst was avoided.
The call was received at 2:14 p.m. Three fire brigades were sent to the site, but when the firemen arrived, the child was already under medical care. The girl was taken to a hospital in Białystok. She was conscious, and the tests showed only general contusions. Her condition is defined as good.
Police determined that only the child's mother was in the apartment at the time of the incident. The woman was asleep. Witnesses would knock on the door long before being overslept. Her blood alcohol was 0.7. Officers explain how the child got off the railing. The mother is facing criminal liability for exposing the child to a direct risk of loss of life or serious harm to health.
Security footage of the housing cooperative and witness videos immediately flooded social media. They show a moment when men quickly break up a blanket and catch a falling girl. TVN24 material and other recordings are circulating on the network, triggering a wave of comments full of appreciation for rescuers and outrage at mother's behavior.
One of the participants, Mr. Grzegorz, later reported that these were literally the last seconds. The little girl was just hanging from her hands, hanging out and flying down. A quick reaction from passersby saved her life.
