The District Court in Łódź has just issued a judgment in a loud case that shook the public at the beginning of the year. 32-year-old Ewelina R. heard a penalty of 3 years and 6 months imprisonment for armed robbery using a dangerous tool. The video from the camera in the taxi was ridden Internet and showed dramatic moments in which the grip of a young driver probably saved his life.
What exactly happened in the taxi?
The event took place on the evening of January 26, 2026, in Łódź Widzew. The woman ordered a course through a popular application to the Head. When the 22-year-old driver (a citizen of Ukraine) gave the price of PLN 100, the passenger stated that she had only PLN 20. After refusing to take the course, the situation got out of control.
She pulled a kitchen knife out of her purse, put it to the driver's neck and shoulder, threatening to kill and cut off his fingers. She also forced him to destroy two phones and took the $20. The whole incident was recorded by a car camera – movie He quickly went online and caused a huge stir.
Quick trial and judgment
The trial in the District Court in Łódź lasted only a few hours. Ewelina R. pleaded guilty, expressed remorse, and apologized to the victim. This one accepted the apology. However, the woman claimed she did not remember the events because she was under the influence of alcohol and psychoactive agents.
Judge Tomasz Krawczyk justifying the judgment, he stressed the seriousness of the act – knife robbery is punishable by a penalty of 3 to 20 years in prison. Despite the remorse of the defendant and the settlement of the parties, the court ruled a ruthless imprisonment. Punishment is to be done in the therapeutic system to help treat addiction. In addition, Ewelina R. must repair the damage (more than PLN 1200) and cover the costs of the process (more than PLN 7 thousand). The sentence is not final.
Why such punishment despite repentance?
The court found that only thanks to the cold blood of the taxi driver could avoid tragedy. Threats were real, a dangerous tool, and the situation could have ended tragically. The verdict also has a preventive dimension – it clearly shows that aggression against taxi drivers, especially with the use of weapons, will not be tolerated.
