On Tuesday, 13 October, in the morning, the bodies of four people were found in a block at Jagiełły Street in the Pod Dalnią estate in Kielce. Prosecutors are examining, among other things, the hypothesis of an extended suicide; activities at the scene are ongoing.
What the police said
As Sub-Inspector Małgorzata Perkowska-Kiepas of the Kielce Municipal Police Headquarters reported, the duty officer received a report a few minutes after 7:00. Its content indicated that a man showing no signs of life was located by the balcony of one of the apartments in the four-storey building (reports from TVN24 and PAP).
Entry into the premises required first restraining an aggressive dog. Police officers did this together with shelter staff. Inside, officers found the bodies of three more people: a woman and two young men. Police are establishing their identities and the circumstances of the incident.
Prosecutors: the most likely scenario
Two prosecutors from the Kielce-Zachód District Prosecutor’s Office and a forensic physician are working at the scene, and an inspection of the site and bodies is under way. Daniel Prokopowicz, spokesman for the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Kielce, told Wirtualna Polska that the most likely scenario is an extended suicide. This would mean the killing of three people in the apartment, followed by the suicide of the perpetrator. He cautioned that this is still being established, and that the activities will probably last until the evening.
According to Radio Eska Kielce, the spokesman also said that prosecutors are examining this hypothesis and do not rule out other scenarios. The identities of the victims have not been officially confirmed. As “Echo Dnia” reported, even before 9:30 a.m. police were indicating that there was no full certainty whose bodies had been found in the apartment. The spokesman announced that he may provide more information in the afternoon.
What is still unknown
As of publication, the causes of death, the identities and ages of the deceased, and whether they were related have not been officially disclosed. There is also no information about arrests. It is unclear whether services are searching for anyone other than the people found in the apartment. All findings are preliminary, and the final conclusions will be drawn by the investigation, including autopsies.
What it means
Residents of the block at Jagiełły Street should expect the presence of services until the evening. The case is being handled by the Kielce prosecutor’s office, and statements have been announced for the afternoon.
