Poland is influenced by an extensive lowland system with centres on the Baltic. The main causes of the storms passing through Poland this season are mainly climate change, which causes the increase in average temperatures during the spring-summer period, which increases storm activity and rainfall intensity. Weather alerts, including the highest level, are valid in 13 voivodships.
The effects of the storms. A few wounded got to the hospital
The recent storms have caused numerous damage and intervention by the fire department. The State Fire Department recorded a total of 1,607 interventions related to the removal of the effects of intense rainfall and strong wind. Firefighters remove flooding of streets, basements, and buildings, overturned trees, and secure locations of events. The most reports were recorded in the voivodships: Podkarpackie (more than 1100), Małopolska (472) and Lublin (172).
In the chain district of Podkarpacie, a staff was established due to about 200 events, including about 50 damaged roofs. About 90 broken roofs were counted in Małopolska, including the church in Brzesk and the school in Nieszkowice Wielkie. In the district of Wielicz, the services are dealing with drownings. In Podkarpacie, four people were injured and went to hospitals, including one person being electrocuted by a broken power line.
Forecasts for the upcoming time
The government calls for warnings and caution not to be ignored, including securing balconies and avoiding parking of cars under trees. The Territorial Defense Army Brigades have been put on alert. In the following days, the gradual weakening of storms and precipitation is expected, but due to the dynamics and local nature of convection phenomena, the exact moment when storms stop may vary from region to region. July 2025 will be characterized by variable weather with periods of strong storms and heavy rains, but also by heat waves.
