The police chase in Wrocław began when a patrol tried to stop the driver of a passenger car, but instead of stopping for inspection, the driver accelerated and began fleeing through the city streets. The car sped along Hallera Avenue, ignoring traffic rules and signals, which led to it entering the junction with Gajowicka Street on a red light and colliding with a tram.
According to local outlets, it happened during the morning rush hour, and witnesses spoke of “scenes straight out of an action movie” as the passenger car smashed into an MPK tram. The impact severely destroyed the car, and traffic in the area was paralysed for many hours.
The victims and a chilling discovery
At least three people were in the car; they were injured and taken to hospital, and doctors described the condition of some of them as serious. Passengers on the tram were luckier – according to preliminary information, they mainly suffered lighter injuries and bruising, although many of them needed help at the scene.
The most shocking discovery, however, was that of a 34-year-old man in the boot of the wrecked car. According to national media, he reportedly had signs of beating and may have been abducted earlier, and despite resuscitation he later died in hospital, which opened an entirely new line of inquiry.
What we know about the suspects and the investigation
Investigators are examining why the driver chose a desperate escape and what criminal background may be involved. The police and prosecutors are looking into, among other things, the abduction, drug trafficking and potential settling of scores, as the circumstances of transporting a beaten man in the boot point to a brutal criminal conflict.
All the men were transported to hospital. There were two passengers in the vehicle, the driver, and a third man who was being transported in the boot. The victim, a 34-year-old man, died in hospital after 6:00 a.m.

Transport paralysis and chaos in the city
The accident at one of Wrocław’s main junctions almost immediately affected public transport. Trams on lines 14 and 20 were diverted via Powstańców Śląskich and Grabiszyńska streets, and some buses, including 127, 136 and 144, changed their routes, creating transport chaos during the morning rush hour.
The city launched replacement bus services on the Hallera – FAT – Hallera section to at least partly ease the traffic jams and help residents get around. For many people, however, that morning symbolised helplessness in the face of one reckless driver who had blocked a key city hub.
