The Lublin branch of ZUS has become the scene of a shocking conflict. Four inspectors are suspected of poisoning a colleague by adding a toxic substance to her sugar. Prosecutors are handling the case.

The victim is an experienced employee who for months had complained of persistent headaches and migraines, symptoms that eased when she was on holiday or away from the workplace. An internal inspection confirmed the validity of the report, and disciplinary proceedings were initiated against the four inspectors.
How did the poisoning happen?
According to investigators, the colleagues added a chemical substance to the sugar. The motives were surprisingly trivial: the victim did not like the atmosphere in the room, and the conflict had been escalating since June. Such office conflicts, although seemingly harmless, sometimes lead to dramatic consequences.

On 25 September, ZUS officially notified the prosecutor’s office of a suspected crime. The authorities issued a statement in which they stressed that they were shocked by the scale of the incident and had introduced immediate procedures to check employee safety.
What do the perpetrators face?
The proceedings are being conducted under Article 160 of the Criminal Code, which covers exposing a person to direct danger of loss of life or serious harm to health. Such an act is punishable by up to 3 years of imprisonment. If guilt is proven, the inspectors may also lose their jobs and professional licences.
