Krzesimir Dębski, a respected Polish composer and conductor who is also the father of Radzimir Dębski (Jimek), recently gave a rather critical and candid interview about his son’s work.
A Father's Critical Eye
Dębski admitted that although he is glad Radzimir has found his place and is achieving success, he judges his work more strictly from the perspective of a classical musician. The composer noted that his son’s activity is based primarily on remixing, “cutting out fragments of other pieces” and creating electronic music or beats, which he described as “an easy ride” compared with traditional composition of original works.
Krzesimir spoke about it with detachment, recalling his own youthful musical jokes, which also relied on improvisation and experiments with music, but he noted that the world of popular and internet music had changed greatly and that this type of activity had now become “high art”. Even so, he expressed surprise that such forms have become dominant today.
Although Krzesimir Dębski criticises elements of his son’s work, he does not deny his talent or achievements. He stresses that Radzimir is fulfilling himself in a different field and environment from his own, which does not mean he is less valuable as an artist. In later statements, after a wave of criticism, he tried to soften his words, explaining that he did not want to discredit the entire genre and recognises that popular music has its own value and place.
Jimek Makes Waves Beyond Poland
In June 2025, one of the most prestigious music evenings in the world, the BET Awards gala, held on 9 June at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, became the occasion for a remarkable and widely noticed event. Radzimir Dębski appeared on stage alongside hip-hop legend Snoop Dogg, conducting an orchestra that gave the rapper’s performance a completely new, symphonic dimension.
This is not the first time Jimek has made his mark on the international stage. In the past he has worked with, among others, Beyoncé.
