Second year in a row – a walk for senior rescue from four walls

They often take seniors up stairs using specialized equipment such as cardiological chairs or wheelchairs.

Rescuers from Kolobrzegagain launched with a unique action –"Golden Senior Walk", helping older people get out of the house and enjoy fresh air. This is the second edition of the initiative, which has been greatly appreciated by the local community and the media.
How does the action Golden Walk of Senior work?

Paramedic Group operates in formvolunteering– just call a simple phone number to report the need for a walk. Rescuers arrive at the indicated address, helping to safely leave the apartment and return after walking. Such help allows seniors not only to spend time outdoors, but also improves their mental and physical welfare.
We help disabled and elderly people who are trapped in their four walls by architectural barriers. We come to the indicated address, we lift the senior with a cardiology chair or wheelchair, and – after walking with the family or guardian – this person is brought to the apartment.– says Mateusz Giec, originator of the action, secretary of the association
Who can benefit?
- Persons over 60 years of age
- Persons with mobility disabilities
- Seniors living in buildings without an elevator or with difficult access to the exit
How's the walk going?
- Paramedics contact the notifier and set a deadline.
- Using the right equipment, they help the elderly to leave the house.
- During the walk is accompanied by a senior close or guardian.
- After a walk, the paramedics again assist in safe return to the apartment.
In recent years the population of senior citizens in Kołobrzeg has steadily grown – residents over the age of 60 already constitute35 percent of the populationcities. The joint action not only helps to break the isolation, but also becomes a social response to the real needs of the ageing population.
Residents stress that such an initiative should be a model for other localities. For many families Paramedic rescuers are real support and relief in daily duties. The seniors gain not only a moment away from home, but also a sense that they are not left to themselves.
