Sensation in Paris! 24-year-old Maja Chwalińska, who started the tournament through qualifying, has done the impossible. On Thursday, 4 June 2026, the Pole beat Russia’s Diana Shnaider 7:6(4), 6:4 in the semifinal to reach the Roland Garros final!
This is a historic moment – Maja Chwalińska is the first player in the Open Era to reach the French Open final after starting from qualifying. World No. 114, she has already beaten several seeded opponents at this tournament, including Anna Kalinskaya in the quarterfinal.
Road to the final
The Pole is playing in Paris as if in a trance. She started from qualifying and is now one match away from her first Grand Slam title. In the final she will face the talented 18-year-old Russian Mirra Andreeva.
After the match, Chwalińska did not hide her emotion. In her on-court interview she said that „it sounds unreal” and that she is incredibly proud of what she has achieved.
All of Poland is keeping its fingers crossed! After the great successes of Iga Świątek, we have another Polish heroine on the clay courts of Roland Garros. The final is scheduled for Saturday, 6 June.
