On Saturday, 28 February 2026, the air defence systems of the United Arab Emirates intercepted an Iranian ballistic missile over the Dubai Marina district of Dubai.
The attack came as part of Iran’s retaliation for today’s massive Israeli and US strikes on Iran. Following the missile alert, Burj Khalifa and a dozen or so nearby skyscrapers were immediately evacuated. Tourists and residents were swiftly moved out of the world’s tallest building.
Dozens of recordings showing the moment of interception appeared on X, featuring bright explosions in the sky, falling debris and air-raid sirens across Dubai.
The United Arab Emirates confirmed the incident in an official statement from the Ministry of Defence. The authorities stressed that all missiles were destroyed in the air and that the situation is fully under control.
The UAE announced that it had “successfully” intercepted a number of Iranian missiles aimed at the country.
The Ministry of Defence said that the United Arab Emirates had today become the target of an overt ballistic missile attack by Iran, to which the UAE’s air defences effectively responded, and that a certain number of missiles had been intercepted.
The competent authorities of the country also dealt with debris falling on a residential district in the city of Abu Dhabi, which caused material damage and the death of a person of Asian nationality.
The relevant authorities confirmed that the security situation in the country is under control and that all concerned parties are monitoring developments around the clock.
The ministry condemned this attack in the strongest terms, emphasising the state’s categorical opposition to attacks on civilian facilities, institutions and state bodies. It noted that such actions constitute dangerous escalation and a cowardly act that threatens the safety of civilians and undermines stability.
The ministry stressed that these attacks constitute a flagrant violation of national sovereignty and international law, and that the state reserves the full right to respond to this escalation and to take all necessary measures to protect its territory, its citizens and residents, in a way that ensures the preservation of its sovereignty, security and stability, and safeguards its interests and national capabilities.
The ministry confirmed that it is fully prepared and ready to counter all threats, and that it is taking all necessary steps to firmly resist any actions aimed at undermining the security and stability of the state. It added that the safety of citizens, residents and tourists is the highest priority, which must not be compromised.
The ministry urges the public to rely on official sources of information in the country and to avoid spreading rumours or unreliable information.
