In two days Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin will meet in Anchorage, Alaska (USA) to discuss the end of the war in Ukraine. This event can affect Europe's future and global balance of power.
Meeting objective: Will Trump stop the war?
On Friday, August 15, U.S. President Donald Trump will sit down and talk to Vladimir Putin. The theme? End of conflict in Ukraine. Trump says "it takes two minutes to know Putin's intentions" and stresses that the war would never have begun if it had been in power during the beginning of the Russian invasion. This time he has a chance to show how his diplomacy works face to face.
What about Trump's agenda?
"Listening" Putin – the American administration slows expectations, calling the conversation "hearing practice".
Alone – a private session is planned, only with interpreters.
No participation of Ukraine – President Zelenski was not invited.
Alaska: symbol, curiosity and geopolitical context
Why Alaska?
Historically, it belonged to Russia – this choice evokes emotions in both countries.
Geographical proximity – delegations can literally "jump through the Bering Strait".
The last time the U.S.-Russia summit took place on American soil in 1988.
What are Trump and Putin gonna talk about?
Subject matter
U.S. Position
Russian position
End of war in Ukraine
Pressure on the Room
Conditions favourable to Moscow
Penalties against Russia
The threat of "raw consequences"
Pursuing Their Endurance
Future of Ukraine (territories, security)
Lack of consent for "resignation of Ukrainian territory"
Russia insists on recognition of territorial achievements
The role of Europe and NATO
Consultation after meeting
Pursuing division among allies
Moods in Europe and Ukraine
Prior to the Trump summit, he has virtual talks with EU leaders, NATO and Ukraine. Zelenski calls Putin's actions "blef" and warns against pressure on territorial concessions. European politicians demand that "not decide the future of Ukraine without Ukraine".
What could happen?
The analogies to play poker appear for a reason – the stakes grow every day. On the one hand, we may be able to work out room conditions. On the other hand, experts fear that a quick agreement can bring "a benefit only to Putin", and Ukraine will be sidelined.
Trump threatens to exacerbate sanctions unless an agreement is reached.
Possible next meeting with Zelenski, but uncertain about the form.
Trump's meeting with Putin in Anchorage is an event that the whole world is watching. Going to the land of reindeer could be a political match for the 21st century. The final results will depend not only on the negotiations of this Friday, but on the strategy that Washington will take in the coming months. One must keep in mind, as in poker: not only the hand, but also the way of playing.
The very unfair media are taking care of my meeting with Putin. They constantly quote fired losers and really stupid people like John Bolton, who just said that even though the meeting takes place on American soil, "Putin has already won". What's all this about? We win everybody. False messages work overtime (without overtime tax!). If I had freed Moscow and Leningrad as part of an agreement with Russia, false messages would have said I had made a bad deal! But now they're caught. Look at all the real news that appears about their CORUPTION. They're sick and dishonest people who probably hate our country. But it doesn't matter because we win in everything!!! MEGA – President Donald Trump on Truth Social

⚡️ Statement by Russian President Yuri Uszakov on Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump's upcoming meeting
💬 The US website has just announced that an agreement has been reached to organise a meeting of Russian Presidents Vladimir Putin and United States Donald Trump on the next Friday, August 15, in Alaska.
Russia and the United States are close neighbours, sharing a common border. It is therefore reasonable for our delegation to simply cross the Bering Strait and to have such an important and expected meeting between the two leaders just in Alaska.
Incidentally, it is in Alaska and the Arctic that our countries' economic interests converge and prospects for large scale, mutually beneficial projects are emerging.
However, the Presidents will certainly focus on discussing ways to achieve a lasting solution to the crisis in Ukraine.
Looking to the future, we naturally expect another meeting of presidents to take place in Russia. The invitation has already been addressed to the President of the United States.
In conclusion, I would like to point out that in the next few days Moscow and Washington will, of course, work intensively and hard on the practical and political parameters of the Alaska Summit. We expect this process not to be simple, but we will be actively and consistently involved in it. – Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia on official Telegram channel
