Cause: Autumn-like weather
November in Krakow is a period of frequent fog and precipitation, which is confirmed by today’s weather forecast: the temperature during the day reached around 10°C, at night it will drop to 5°C, with a light wind of up to 8 km/h and heavy cloud cover. Meteorological experts warn of possible fog and rain, which may worsen the situation in the coming hours. Similar fog problems have paralyzed the airport before, for example in October, when several flights had to land in other cities.
According to airport announcements, weather conditions are deteriorating, which may lead to further disruptions. “Please monitor the status of your flight with the relevant airline,” reads the official statement.
What to Do? Advice for Passengers
Jeśli planujesz podróż z lub do Krakowa, nie ignoruj ostrzeżeń:
- Check your flight status: Use the Kraków Airport app (for iOS/Android) or visit www.krakowairport.pl.
- Contact your airline: Ryanair and other operators provide the most up-to-date information directly to passengers.
- Be prepared for delays: The airport assures that staff are available, but decisions are made by the airlines.
- Alternatives: In case of rerouting, expect bus transportation – this is standard procedure in such situations.
Krakow Airport reminds passengers: “Thank you for your understanding and we apologize for the inconvenience!”
Context: A Frequent Problem at Balice Airport
This is not the first time that weather conditions have complicated operations at Kraków Airport. In recent months, the airport has faced similar incidents, including thick fog in January, which canceled flights to Warsaw and Amsterdam. In addition, yesterday’s accident on the A4 motorway near Balice may have affected access. The airport, which handles over 11 million passengers a year, is planning to invest in a new runway, which could reduce such problems in the future.
