Changpeng Zhao, known as CZ, was born in China on February 5, 1977, in Jiangsu, but his family emigrated to Canada while he was still a child. In Vancouver he started out working at a gas station and in fast food. Thanks to his perseverance and passion for computers, he earned a degree in computer science from McGill University in Montreal.
Even then, he was drawn to innovation – he worked as an intern at the Tokyo Stock Exchange, then programmed trading systems for Bloomberg Tradebook. It was here that he gained experience that would shape the rest of his life.
Investing in Bitcoin – A Step That Changed Everything
In 2014, at the urging of friends, CZ sold his apartment in Shanghai and invested almost his entire fortune in Bitcoin. It was a gamble that many did not understand – for nearly three years his portfolio was “in the red”, as the price of BTC fell sharply after the collapse of the Mt. Gox exchange. Only the 2017 bull run lifted his investment to great heights, and CZ earned a reputation as a true visionary.

Released from prison, CZ has not disappeared from the digital finance landscape. He has become a strategic adviser in Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan, does charitable work, and actively promotes education, including through the Giggle Academy platform.
