Saylor in distress? MicroStrategy counts billion-dollar losses on Bitcoin

Michael Saylor, a charismatic founder and former CEO of MicroStrategy, has been promoting Bitcoin for years as a "digital gold" and strategically building on it the power of his company. However, the latest financial data paint a grim picture: In the fourth quarter of 2025 the company recorded as much as $17.44 billion in unrealised loss on digital assets, mainly due to a decrease in cryptocurrency value.

The whole year 2025 was unkind – the total loss reached $5.40 billion. This is the effect of a wobbly crypt market that hit the MicroStrategy balance sheet, the largest corporate grower Bitcoin. In December, the company lowered its profit forecasts, and shares fell by nearly 47.5% per year. Nevertheless, Saylor does not give up on the vision: the company holds reserves in US$2.25 billion (as of January 4, 2026) to handle dividends and debts.

Is this a momentary hole, or is it a sign that the strategy of "buy and hold" BTC has reached the limit? Investors are watching with voltage because MicroStrategy has become the barometer of the entire cryptic market. If Bitcoin It will bounce, Saylor can triumph – but so far the numbers speak for themselves.
