In Polish politics, few things are as unpredictable as Simon Holownia's career. Not long ago, as the Speaker of the Sejm, he appeared to be one of the pillars of the ruling coalition, and today he is facing a spectrum of complete retreat. He lost the competition for the position of UN High Commissioner for Refugees, does not run for head of his own party Poland 2050, and polls of this formation scrub after the bottom – only 1% of support, meaning that he would not even enter the Sejm. In my opinion, The rover faces a dilemma: whether to save a sinking ship, or to jump out of "Titanic" and go back to the roots, which is show business? Or will he give the controls to someone else like Richard Petru or Catherine Pełczyńska-Nałęcz to avoid total defeat?
Let's recap: The holovnia, once a charismatic television presenter, entered politics with slogans of new quality and moral renewal. He founded Poland 2050, which in 2023 entered the ruling coalition, and he himself became the Marshal of the Sejm. But today, December 2025, everything is falling apart. According to media reports, the position in the United Nations – which the Holovnia had hoped for as a "international retirement" – fell to Iraqi Barham Ahmed Salih. Holownia himself admitted that the chances were slim, yet he flew to New York on a government plane for recruitment talks. It's symbolic: from public money to private ambition. In my opinion, this failure is not an accident – the Holovnia, despite its charisma, lacks real qualifications in diplomacy or refugee issues. Maternity and media experience are not enough for such a prestigious function.
Additionally, the fight for leadership in Poland 2050 is abandoned. Until recently, rumors were circulating in the party that the Holovnia would, however, take off, but eventually let go. The official list of candidates does not include his name, and the favorite is Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz, former minister and close co-worker Holownia. Others mention Richard Petru, an economist with experience who could try to save the party from complete oblivion. The polls are ruthless: in the latest IPSOS research for Radio ZET or IBRiS for Polsat News, Poland 2050 balances at the border of statistical error, while the Civic Coalition and the PiS dominate. The Holown Party, once the hope of centre voters, today resembles a sinking ship – long, frustration among activists and lack of vision. The process of decomposition, as the insiders say, has already begun.
So will the Holovnia jump out of this Titanic? Speculations about going back to "Got Talent" are not new. The program, which he led over the years with Marcin Prokop, brought him fame and sympathy of viewers. In 2019, he left to focus on politics, but today, after the ridicule of celebrities like Agnieszka Wozniak-Starak ("Oh, Simon, Simon, you may return to 'I have Talent!'"), this option seems tempting. In my opinion, this could be an ideal option – Holovnia has a talent for public performances and politics has shown him boundaries. Instead of being stuck in a party with 1% support, he could go back to TV, where he doesn't have to worry about the polls. But wouldn't that be admitting defeat? Politics was supposed to be a mission, not an episode.
If Holownia gives the controls, who will? Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz seems to be a natural choice – competent, with experience in government, she could try rebranding the party. Richard Petru, with his economic background, would add specifics that are missing. But will this save Poland 2050? I doubt it. The party was formed around the charisma of Holownia, without it it it is an empty balloon. In my opinion, it would be better to connect with another formation, e.g. with the PSL, which also fights for survival.
In conclusion, Simon Holovnia stands at a crossroads. Politics tired him, and defeats – in the UN, in the party, in the polls – show that it is time for change. Returning to "Got Talent" could be a funny twist, but also a symbol that in Polish politics celebrities come and go. If he jumps out of a sinking ship, giving it to Pełczyńska-Nałęcz or Petru, at least he saves his face.
