President of Law and Justice Jarosław Kaczyński informed on Friday 24 July 2026 that about 30 MPs had resigned from the party. He made his statement at the headquarters of PiS at Nowogrodzka Street in Warsaw. This means the end of the PiSu in its current form and a reduction of more than 30 Members.
"About 30 members of our formation have resigned from membership. On Tuesday there will be a political committee meeting to take note of this fact," Kaczyński said.
The decision is a consequence of the ultimatum, which passed at midnight from 23rd to 24th July. The management of the party required parliamentarians to make a declaration of loyalty and resign from their activities in associations, including in the "Development Plus" related to Mateusz Morawiecki. Some MEPs, estimated to be around 40, have not signed the required documents.
Kaczyński stressed that the case concerns not only the association, but, above all, the proposal to split the party, which fell a few weeks earlier. "In this situation, we could not look at the association any other way than as part of the party-sharing plan," the President stated. He added that the party had made far-reaching concessions by giving up the request to dissolve the association and proposing only to freeze its activities until the election, but the proposal was not accepted.
"Everyone knew what to sign and at the same time saw the consequences of not signing. They made the decision they made. In no case do we want to break up in some dislike, it just happened" – Kaczyński said.
The statement is the culmination of a long-standing dispute within the PiS between the president's faction and the environment of former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. The formal adoption of the resignation is due to take place at the meeting of the political committee on Tuesday 28 July.
The most likely group of MPs connected around Mateusz Morawiecki and the Development Plus Association – will now establish a parliamentary wheel – and then who knows, may also have their own political party. Do we have a repeat of the history of the parties founded by Zbigniew Ziobro or Simon Holovnia? The next political months will decide.
