Polish LOT Airlines order 40 modern Airbus A220 aircraft. It is the largest investment in the carrier's history and a breakthrough for Polish aviation.
LOT is betting on Airbus – a breakthrough contract
During this year's Paris Air Show, it was announced that LOT chose Airbus as a supplier of 40 new aircraft to operate regional connections. The agreement also provides for an option for the purchase of another 44 machines, which could mean up to 84 new airbuses in the Polish fleet. This is the first ever order of LOT for aircraft of this brand to replace used Embraery and allow to simplify fleet management.
Airbus A220 – Modernity and Ecology
Two versions, wide possibilities
LOT ordered two Airbus A220 variants:
- A220-100: 108–133 seats, length 35 m
- A220-300: 130–160 seats, length 38.7 m
Both models have a range of more than 6,300 km, allowing to operate both national and European and selected routes to the Middle East and North Africa.
Comfort That Makes a Difference
New aircraft will be equipped with wide Recaro seats manufactured in Poland, USB-C ports with 60W, mobile device holders and larger luggage compartments. The 2+3 cab will provide more space and no central seat, which will be appreciated by passengers.
Ecology and Saving
Airbus A220 is one of the most ecological and economical jets in its class. Modern Pratt & Whitney PW1500G engines provide up to 25% lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions per passenger compared to older models. This is not only a profit for the environment, but also lower operating costs for the carrier.
Why Airbus?
Brazil's Embraer also competed in the tender, but Airbus convinced LOT with modernity, comfort and efficiency of its machines. The decision is part of the LOT development strategy as the leader of air transport in Central and Eastern Europe and preparation for the role of the main carrier of the Central Communication Port.
What will passengers and LOT gain?
- Greater travel comfort– modern interiors, more space, better amenities
- More flexibility in connection grid– range up to 6 700 km
- Lower costs and lower carbon footprint
- Simplified fleet– easier planning and maintenance
Ordering for Airbus A220 is not only the largest investment in the history of LOT, but also the signal that the Polish carrier is betting on the future, modernity and ecology. New aircraft will appear in the fleet from 2027 and have the chance to change the quality of flying in Poland for long years.
