LOT Polish Airlines is ordering 40 modern Airbus A220 aircraft. It is the largest investment in the carrier’s history and a breakthrough for Polish aviation.
LOT Bets on Airbus – a Breakthrough Contract
At this year’s Paris Air Show, it was announced that LOT had chosen Airbus as the supplier of 40 new aircraft for regional routes. The agreement also includes an option to purchase a further 44 aircraft, which could mean as many as 84 new Airbus jets in the Polish fleet. This is LOT’s first-ever order for aircraft of this brand, which will replace its aging Embraers and simplify fleet management.
Airbus A220 – Modernity and Ecology
Two Versions, Wide Capabilities
LOT has ordered two variants of the Airbus A220:
- A220-100: 108–133 seats, length 35 m
- A220-300: 130–160 seats, length 38.7 m
Both models have a range of over 6,300 km, enabling service on domestic and European routes as well as selected routes to the Middle East and North Africa.
Comfort That Makes a Difference
The new aircraft will be equipped with wide Recaro seats produced in Poland, 60W USB-C ports, device holders and larger overhead luggage compartments. The 2+3 cabin layout will provide more space and no middle seat, which passengers will appreciate.
Ecology and Savings
The Airbus A220 is one of the most ecological and economical jets in its class. Modern Pratt & Whitney PW1500G engines deliver up to 25% lower fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions per passenger compared with older models. This means not only a benefit for the environment but also lower operating costs for the airline.
Why Airbus?
Brazil’s Embraer also competed in the tender, but Airbus convinced LOT with the modernity, comfort and efficiency of its aircraft. The decision fits into LOT’s strategy of becoming a leader in air transport in Central and Eastern Europe and preparing for the role of main carrier at the Central Communication Port (CPK).
