On Thursday morning, residents of Sosnowiec woke up under the shadow of a shocking machete attack. The city’s mayor firmly appeals to residents for calm and prudence.
Course of Events
At around 5:00 a.m. on Mikołajczyka Street in Sosnowiec, a man armed with a machete appeared. He first damaged several parked cars and a city bus. The situation quickly escalated – the attacker also reacted aggressively toward uniformed officers.
After police arrived at the scene, the officers were attacked by the man. Facing a direct threat to their lives and health, the officers used a firearm. The wounded attacker was taken to hospital, where he died.
Appeal from the Mayor of Sosnowiec
The local government official stressed that “it is the criminal who should feel threatened, not the resident of Sosnowiec. Uniformed officers must feel supported in their actions every single day”.

Residents of the estate are shaken by the scale of the aggression and the sight of the damaged vehicles. The situation highlights how important swift responses by emergency services and police professionalism are. At the scene, intensive activities were carried out for several hours under the supervision of a prosecutor – the street was closed to traffic.
So far, police have not disclosed the nationality or other details concerning the identity of the shot attacker. The authorities and the prosecutor’s office have announced that additional information will be provided as soon as investigative procedures and formal findings allow.
