On Christmas morning on December 24, 2025, instead of Christmas joy, the Opole province shook a huge tragedy. At the intersection of national roads 39 and 94 in the village of Zięcice near Brzeg there was a leading collision of two passenger cars, resulting in six deaths. This is one of the most tragic accidents on Polish roads this year.
About 6:30 a.m., most people were preparing for Christmas. According to preliminary police findings, two vehicles were involved in the accident: Volkswagen Passat and Ford Kuga. From unknown causes, there was a frontal collision. One of the cars – the one where five people were traveling – went up in flames and completely burned. The other car was driven by one person. All the victims died on the scene before the emergency services could help.
At the scene, police, fire department and emergency services immediately appeared. National road No 39 in the junction area with DK94 was completely blocked and traffic was diverted to detours by local roads. Proceedings at the scene are carried out under the supervision of the prosecutor from the Bank. Police call on witnesses to report and transmit any information that may help explain the circumstances of the tragedy.

The causes of the accident are not yet known, but investigators do not rule out excessive speed or failure of the driver. According to the media, there is often a collision in similar places due to a lack of light signals or a roundabout.
The investigation is ongoing, and the police promise to give more details soon. At this difficult time, let us remember safety – one moment of indifference can cost lives.
