Officers from the Criminal Department of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Kalisz achieved a major success in the fight against drug crime. During several simultaneous operations in Kalisz and in the Opole Voivodeship, they detained three people linked to the illegal trade in psychoactive substances and seized nearly 55 kilograms of various narcotics – amphetamine, methamphetamine and ecstasy tablets. The estimated value of the seized goods exceeds PLN 1.5 million.
During the searches, officers also found liquid semi-finished products needed to produce drugs, as well as specialist equipment used in substance production facilities – mixers, tablet presses, electronic scales and a heat sealer. In addition, a gas-powered firearm and ammunition were discovered in the possession of one of the detainees, who did not have the required permits for them.
Possible consequences
The District Prosecutor’s Office in Kalisz has opened an investigation into the case. Charges have been brought against three men aged 30, 32 and 45. The 30-year-old resident of Kalisz will answer for producing and attempting to supply significant quantities of psychotropic substances, an offence that carries a penalty of up to 20 years in prison. The 45-year-old from Opole Voivodeship has been charged, among other things, with attempting to supply significant quantities of narcotics, possessing equipment and precursors for production, and illegal firearms – an offence that may result in a penalty of up to 10 years’ imprisonment. The 32-year-old resident of West Pomerania Voivodeship will stand trial for possessing psychotropic substances and has been placed under police supervision and a ban on leaving the country.
The court imposed three-month pre-trial detention on the two most serious suspects. The effective operation by Kalisz police officers has significantly weakened drug networks operating in Greater Poland Voivodeship and neighbouring regions, underscoring the determination of the authorities to combat drug crime.
