Karwia: object resembling a drone found on beach, area secured

On a beach in Karwia in Puck County, a passerby found an object resembling a drone. Police secured the area, the prosecutor’s office was notified, and the Military Gendarmerie (ŻW) is also working at the scene.

The report came in on Tuesday, 13 October, at about 6:20 p.m. As Interia was told by the spokeswoman for the Puck County Police commander, Senior Assistant Inspector Agnieszka Selewska, the duty officer received the call via the Emergency Notification Centre. The person reporting, a passerby, said they had found an “object resembling a drone” on the beach.

What the services are doing

Police officers were sent to the scene. According to a police statement, the prosecutor’s office and “the relevant services” were notified. Officers secured the area and are investigating the circumstances of the incident (Interia, citing a police statement).

The actions were also confirmed by Military Gendarmerie spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Dariusz Rozkosz. Speaking to TVN24, he said that appropriate services had been dispatched to the site. He added that he could not yet confirm what the object is, and that the gendarmerie would provide information once it could safely approach it.

According to Onet, citing RMF FM, police counter-terrorism officers are also working at the site.

What is still unknown

RMF24 unofficially learned that the device is about two metres long and partly buried in sand. According to the radio station, it could be a machine of the Polish military. The services have not confirmed this and, as of publication, have not revealed what the object is or where it might have come from.

It has not been reported whether people were evacuated from the area or whether traffic and beach access restrictions were introduced. Karwia lies on the Baltic Sea coast, in the commune of Choczewo.

What it means

Police have secured the area, so access to the beach near the find may be restricted. The object should not be touched or approached. The find should be reported by calling 112.
