The mother of the suspect in the murder of Maya from Mława, Catherine G. again has a problem with the justice system. Once again, he is responsible for online statements that the court found to be detrimental to the personal welfare of teenage families. This time, single entries became crucial – each of them could cost PLN 3,000.
Who is Catherine G. and what the dispute is about
Catherine G. is the mother of Bartosz G., a 17-year-old suspect in the brutal killing of 16-year-old Maya from Mława – one of the loudest criminal cases of recent years. Since the beginning of the tragedy, he has been actively commenting on the issue in social media, defending his son and simultaneously attacking the victim's family. According to the family's attorneys, Mai's entries were hateful, containing vulgar wording and suggestions regarding the alleged private life of the murdered teenager.
For the family, the Internet girl's nag became an additional trauma, compared to constantly scratching the wound. It was in this context that a series of civil and criminal proceedings concerning defamation and violation of personal property took place.
Judgments, prohibitions and new financial penalties
In previous proceedings, the court has already once found that the entries of Catherine G. crossed the limits of the allowed criticism. She was obliged to pay PLN 150 thousand make amends to the Mai family and to the public apology in national tabloid titles: "Fact" and "Super Express", as well as on websites and on their own profiles. Additionally, the court ordered her to remove all insulting entries she posted on Facebook and forums.
Despite these measures, according to family attorneys, the hateful activity continued. It was the violation of earlier bans and subsequent entries that became the basis for subsequent lawsuits, in which the rate of PLN 3,000 for each entry appears.
We filed a complaint with the court in Płock because Catherine G. after her last sentence did not stop attacking the Kowalski family. The Court of Appeal found us right and judged PLN 3,000 for each entry — Says the lawyer.
The border is constantly shifted. Our family is under constant attack. We don't know how far this is going to go. Last sentence didn't work. We feel a threat from Catherine G. — This is Jarosław Kowalski, father of a murdered teenager.
Judgment is valid And you can't appeal to him. The lawyer adds that the law firm has further evidence of the offensive entries of Catherine G.

For those publishing hundreds or even thousands of comments, as the lawyers estimate, there are potentially huge amounts. The Mai family indicated that Catherine G. could post up to 10,000 negative comments regarding their and the murdered daughter.
