The psychiatric observation of 18-year-old Bartosz G., a suspect in violent murder with the particular cruelty of 16-year-old Mai K. of Mława, ended. The expert opinion will now go to the District Attorney's Office in Płock, which will eventually determine whether a teenager is facing trial or going to a psychiatric hospital.

Who's Bartosz G.?
Bartosz G. is an 18-year-old who was detained in Greece after leaving Poland after the assassination of 16-year-old Mai K. The District Attorney's Office in Płock reported that the crime occurred in Mława and the suspect was extradited from Greece in December 2025. Since then, a man has been in custody and his criminal proceedings are conducted in a special mode for minors.
Investigators charge him with murder with particular cruelty. A key role in the further course of the case is to assess his mental state at the time of the crime.
End of psychiatric observation
Bartosz G.'s psychiatric observation lasted a standard four-week period of hospitalization in a closed psychiatric hospital. Examined psychiatrists did not apply to extend it, suggesting that they have obtained sufficient data to prepare a full opinion.
According to investigators, the end of the observation means that in a few weeks the prosecution will be able to develop written specialists. The opinion will form the basis for deciding whether to refer the case to the court or, in the event of a suspect being declared insane, to forward it for further treatment in a psychiatric institution.
What happens next?
Depending on the content of the psychiatric opinion, three main scenarios are possible:
- If Bartosz G. is considered Healthy, criminal proceedings will be resumed and the case will be settled.
- When the experts say he was insane at the time of the crime, the proceedings may be dismissed and his further fate will be settled in a court-psychiatric procedure (hospitalization in a psychiatric hospital).
- Less often, but theoretically possible, it is also considered partially insane, which involves a milder dimension of criminal responsibility.
The Prosecutor's Office emphasizes that there are no preliminary observations yet – decisions will be made only after the analysis of the full report. Equally important will be the further response of the public, especially the Mai family and the Mława community, which has been waiting for months for developments.
