The manhunt for 57-year-old Tadeusz Duda, a suspect in a double homicide in the Old Village near Limanowa, lasts the second day. Hundreds of policemen from all over Poland, police helicopters, drones and dogs were involved. Who's the wanted man, and what do we know about his victims?
Extensive search in difficult terrain
Since Friday morning, the Old Village area has been swept by over 450 officers, including prevention troops, counter-terrorists and specialised teams with dogs for molecular sniffing. The action included a police Black Hawk helicopter that supports aerial operations. Police set up roadblocks, controls cars, and checks every signal from residents.
The search site is extremely difficult – it is extensive, wooded areas of the Island Beskid. According to experts, the unsub may well know the surrounding forests, making it difficult to stop him quickly.
Who is the wanted man, Tadeusz Duda?
57-year-old Tadeusz Duda was already known to the police. The family in which the tragedy occurred was subject to the Blue Card procedure due to domestic violence. In the past, Duda was repeatedly intervened – criminal threats and family abuse were reported. The man also had a restraining order against his loved ones. In April of that year, he was under police supervision, but on the day of the tragedy the ban was no longer in force.
According to residents and investigators, Duda had a difficult relationship with his family for years, and neighbors were afraid of his aggressive behavior. He was seen as a conflict person, and the family members benefited from support institutions.
The course of tragedy and casualties
The shooting took place on Friday, June 27, before noon. According to the prosecution's findings, Tadeusz Duda first shot his 73-year-old mother-in-law and then went to his daughter's house, several hundred metres away. There he shot 26-year-old daughter Justyna and her 31-year-old husband Zbigniew. There was also a one - year - old girl at home who was not injured.
Her mother-in-law has had surgery and she's stable. The local community is shocked by the tragedy – the victims were known and liked, and their deaths caused great grief among the inhabitants.

Police appeal and security of residents
Police warn that the wanted man may be armed and dangerous. It is recommended to take special care, not to approach unknown people in the area and to immediately report any information to emergency number 112. The RCB Alert was sent to the inhabitants of Małopolska, Silesia and Podkarpacie.
