Neighbors of 66-year-old Krzysztof N. from Wroclaw, who is suspected of preparing an attack on Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, say they knew him as a calm and helpful man – reports „Fakt”. Prosecutors have charged him with nine offences.
According to „Fakt”, as cited by WP, the man’s neighbors are shocked. They describe him as polite and willing to help. These are witness accounts, not findings by investigators – they say nothing about what the suspect did or planned.
What prosecutors established
The case came to light on Sunday, October 11. As Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński said, the State Protection Service (SOP) received information from an informant about a planned attack on Tusk and Kosiniak-Kamysz. The suspect was detained the same day. We previously reported on how the services checked information about a possible attack.
On Tuesday, October 13, prosecutor Piotr Antoni Skiba, spokesman for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw, announced nine charges. The most serious concerns planning the forcible overthrow of state authorities, including the prime minister and the Council of Ministers, using explosive materials stockpiled by the suspect. This carries a sentence of 2 to 15 years in prison.
The remaining charges concern recordings published online: promoting the ideology of forcibly seizing power, promoting an aggressive war, including against Ukraine, and calling for crimes on national, ethnic, racial and political grounds. According to prosecutors, improvised explosive materials were found in the detained man’s apartment. The man has pleaded not guilty and refused to give explanations.
Detention and further investigation
The court ordered two months of pretrial detention. As we reported in our article on the detention and the examination of the suspect’s sanity, experts will assess his mental state. Investigators are still working out how exactly the preparations were supposed to look and what threat actually existed.
What it means
The man is a suspect, not a convicted person; the court will decide on guilt. Until the investigation and expert opinions are complete, it is unknown whether the case will reach court with the indictment in its original form. Detention lasts two months and may be extended at the prosecution’s request.
