Piotr Moczulski from Poland has been in critical condition in a hospital in Cebu City, Philippines, since April 2024. What was meant to be a dream holiday ended in a tragic scooter accident and a fight for his life.
On 18 April 2024, Piotr suffered a serious accident. He sustained extensive internal injuries and brain swelling. Since then, he has been in a vegetative state, breathes through a tracheostomy, and is fed via a PEG tube. His family notices small reactions to the voices of loved ones.
Costs and the family’s ordeal
The family has already spent over PLN 300,000, and their debt to the hospital stands at another PLN 400,000. Piotr’s monthly care costs approx. PLN 20,000. The cost of medical transport to Poland is estimated at over one million zloty (approx. 270,000 euros).
Despite numerous appeals from the family, the Polish government and state administration have not taken any concrete action to help bring Piotr back to the country.
Comparison with Klaudia’s case
The fact that just a few weeks ago the Ministry of National Defence swiftly sent a special military aircraft for 24-year-old Klaudia Uciechowska from Wałbrzych, who was stranded in a hospital in China, makes it all the more painful. In Piotr’s case, despite a similarly dramatic situation, no such help has been received so far.
The family launched a fundraiser on the Siepomaga platform and for over a year has been fighting for their son’s return to Poland, where he would have a chance at specialist rehabilitation.

We are keeping our fingers crossed for Piotr’s return home and hope that the Polish authorities will finally respond as quickly as they did in Klaudia’s case.
