In Warsaw a citizens' initiative was launched to call off the president of the capital Rafał Trzaskowski by referendum. Action Named Capital Reference Operation (SOR).
Organizers – mainly right-wing communities and disgruntled residents announced that in the coming weeks they would start collecting signatures for a referendum not only on the President's appeal, but also on the entire Warsaw Council.
Main reasons for the action
The initiators point to a number of controversy surrounding city management, including:
- The affair with David Kacprzyk at the Southern Hospital
- Infrastructure problems (e.g. repeated Cchaika failures)
- Criticism of the style of government and priorities of the capital authorities
According to them, "the medley has changed," and the Warsawers have had enough.
Real chances?
In order for a referendum to take place, it is necessary to collect about 135 000 signatures (10% of those entitled to vote). For the validity of the vote, attendance is needed at minimum 35,3% (about 467 000 people) – which in practice is very difficult to achieve.
Despite the low chances of formal success, initiators count on social and media effects – they want to show the scale of discontent with the rule of Trzask.
The case is very fresh. So far, the President of Warsaw has not made a public reference to the initiative.
