Week-long search for 13-year-old Roksana from Ochota: what we know and how to help

Since Saturday, 10 October, a search has been under way for 13-year-old Roksana Jurczyszyn from Warsaw’s Ochota district. According to police, the girl has still not contacted her family, and her whereabouts are unknown.

The statement was published by the Warsaw III District Police Station (Ochota, Ursus, Włochy). As stated on the station’s website, the case is being handled by the Team for Searching for and Identifying Persons. Police ask anyone who has seen the girl or knows where she is to provide information.

Description and clothing

According to police, Roksana is about 170 cm tall, has a slim build and long, straight blonde hair. On the day she disappeared, she was wearing a grey sweatshirt, grey tracksuit trousers and white sports shoes. She had a small grey handbag with her.

What we know about her last hours

Police say the girl left home at around 3:00 p.m. In an appeal published online, her parents point to 6:00 p.m. As Polsat News reports, the spokeswoman for the Ochota station, Assistant Superintendent Małgorzata Gębczyńska, said the girl “was supposed to return and did not.” The spokeswoman stressed that she could not disclose details of the case.

According to the parents, as quoted by the media, a location app showed that their daughter was in the area of the Vistula Boulevards. She reportedly told her father by phone that she was going to the metro and would come back. Her phone was switched off afterwards. As TVN24 reports (via WP), she may not have reached the agreed meeting place. According to TVN’s “Uwaga!” programme, police officers, search groups and a drone operator worked in the Boulevards area on Saturday.

In a conversation with “Fakt,” the girl’s mother denied online reports that Roksana’s phone had been found. The parents are pointing to a wave of false leads. Police have said they verify every signal.

What this means

Information about Roksana can be submitted to the Warsaw III District Police Station at ul. Opaczewska 8 in Warsaw (phone numbers are given in the station’s statement). If anyone has seen the girl, they should call the emergency number 112. It is advisable not to share unverified reports. False leads can tie up emergency services and hinder the search. As of publication, police have not announced any new findings. According to the spokeswoman, as reported by Polsat News, a Child Alert has not been planned for now.
