A man's car broke down on the forest road, and police spotted the vehicle through a helicopter, which enabled rescuers to find it in the bushes near the car. Barber had several injuries, including injured right leg, and was also heavily dehydrated. Despite difficult conditions, he survived by drinking water from the pond, which was polluted, as well as by eating what he managed to find and building a provisional shelter from sticks and mud. He warmed up by putting grass in his clothes. Near his refuge he wrote on a stone "help" and made a drawing of "SOS" on the ground to alert the rescuers.
The man was transported by helicopter to Cariboo Memorial Hospital, where he received medical assistance, and was then discharged home, where he met his family. Rescuers and police praised his knowledge of wildlife and the persistence of search teams that contributed to his survival.
