Tomorrow Poland will face another winter attack. Than Wolfgang, named so by meteorologists, approaches our borders and brings with him heavy snowfall. Experts warn against communication paralysis in several regions. What is worth knowing about this phenomenon and how to prepare? Check out the latest forecasts!
What is he than Wolfgang and where did he come from?
Than Wolfgang is a deep low-pressure system that formed over the Mediterranean and is heading for Central Europe. It is named after the system of naming cyclones by the European Centre for Medium Term Forecasts. In Poland, it will strike tomorrow, Wednesday, November 26, 2025, bringing with it the atmospheric front with strong rainfall.
According to forecasts, than this one is Genuine, which means it was created in the Gulf area. This is a typical arrangement that often causes rapid weather changes in our country, especially during the transition period between autumn and winter.
Weather forecast: Where and when will it snow?
Than Wolfgang will enter Poland on Tuesday evening, but the strongest rainfall is expected on Wednesday. Snow will appear at a temperature close to 0°C, making it wet and heavy, which increases the risk of slips and energy failures.
The most affected regions are:
- Suwałczyzna, Warmia and Mazury – here snow will cover roads for several centimeters.
- Southeast: Podkarpatie and Lubelskie – precipitation up to 10-20 cm of snow.
- Center: Mazowsze and Łódź – possible snow storms and rain showers mixed with snow.
In some places, as in Lower Silesia, precipitation can be freezing, which will further complicate the situation. Forecasts indicate a blizzard of up to 30 cm in the most vulnerable areas.
Impact on the country: Communication paralysis and warnings
Powerful snowfalls can paralyze traffic, especially on the A1 and A2 motorways and national roads to the east. Road services are already preparing for action, but drivers should avoid travelling if possible.
The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management issued first and second degree warnings for snow and blizzards. Power outages are possible due to heavy snow on power lines. In cities such as Warsaw and Kraków, sidewalks and streets can be buried, making daily operation difficult.
How to prepare for the winter attack?
To avoid problems, it is worth:
- Check the winter tires and snow chains in the car.
- Provide food and water supplies in case of supply interruptions.
- Track current forecasts on IMGW websites or weather applications.
- Avoid going outside during the strongest rainfall, especially for the elderly and children.
Experts point out that the second half of November 2025 brings about a violent weather breakdown, which is typical of this period. After less than Wolfgang may come warming, but for now winter shows its claws.
