Sony officially confirmed the closure. PlayStation Store on PS3 and PS Vita. This is another step in abandoning old consoles – after giving up production of physical plates, now the end of support for stores on the oldest platforms is coming.
When exactly will the store disappear?
- PS3: In some Latin American countries (including Mexico, Honduras, Nicaragua) the store will be shut down in August 2026. In other regions – together with Vita in July 2027.
- PS Vita: Global closure planned for July 2027.
After these dates it will no longer be possible to buy new games, DLCs or other digital content on these consoles.
What about the games already bought?
That's the question that most engulfs players. Fortunately, Sony calms down:
Users will still be able to download previously purchased games and content for "predictable time" after the store closes.
This means that You won't lose access to gamesWhich you already bought. You will be able to download them again if the console works and is connected to the internet. However, there will be no possibility to buy new titles.
Why is Sony doing this?
The company explains the technical problems – old consoles no longer support modern payment and security systems. Sony wants to focus resources on current and future platforms (mainly PS5 and subsequent generations).
This is another signal that the era of PS3 and PS Vita in the ecosystem PlayStation It's coming to an end. Many players fear that in the future the collection of old purchases may also be reduced, although Sony has not announced so far.
