The tragic shooting took place on Friday June 12, 2026 morning in town Midland West Texas.
Armed man opened fire near West Wall Street, killing one person and wounding at least 10 others. Among the victims are 62-year-old urban worker Edward Randall Scott.
Who was the unsub?
The unsub was 45-year-old Victor Mata Villarreal from nearby Odessa. The man was already wanted by the police – a few days earlier he shot an officer during a pursuit.
After the attack, Villarreal barricaded himself in an abandoned veterinary clinic. After a few hours of siege Police confirmed the unsub was dead. It's not clear if he did Suicideif he died in a firefight.
Authority response
The mayor of Midland Lori Blong called the events "a heart-breaking morning". There were numerous police personnel on site, including SWAT, helicopters and police robots.
Hospital In Midland, he reported that some of the wounded required surgery, but most are in stable condition.
This is another recent case of mass shooting in Texas, which rekindles the debate on access to arms in the United States.
The case is still being explained by the Texas Rangers and local police.
