A tragedy in a small town in Wales has shaken the local community and reignited debate over the safety of dogs of breeds considered dangerous.
The Wales Tragedy – What Happened?
On Sunday evening, a 9-month-old baby was fatally mauled by an American bully dog. According to the media, the incident occurred when fireworks were being set off in the area, which may have triggered aggression in the animal. Emergency services who arrived at the scene were unable to save the infant, and the dog was put down.
Someone was setting off fireworks near the house, and the dog was scared and agitated, so it must have panicked and attacked the child – said one of the family’s neighbours in an interview with “The Telegraph”.
American Bully – A Breed Controversy
The American bully, especially the XL variety, is on the list of banned breeds in the United Kingdom. Since February 2025, breeding these dogs requires special permits – without them, the animals are subject to immediate euthanasia. In the past, many attacks involving American bullies were recorded, which led to the introduction of new regulations. Since 31 December 2023, breeding, sale and rehoming of these dogs has been prohibited.
