Donald Trump plans to build a new, enormous ballroom in the White House complex. The project involves rebuilding the East Wing, where the first lady’s offices are currently located, into a spacious ballroom with an area of over 8.3 thousand square meters). The new room is to accommodate about 650 people, a significant increase compared to the current largest room in the White House, the East Room, which holds about 200 guests.
Huge Budget and Luxurious Interior
The construction is to be richly designed and finished, with renderings showing many gold decorations, crystal chandeliers, and architectural elements referencing the classical style, similar to the decor of the banquet hall at Mar-a-Lago, Trump’s private estate in Florida. The project is being carried out by McCrery Architects, a firm specializing in classical architecture.
The cost of the investment is estimated at about $200 million and is to be covered by Donald Trump himself and ,,patriotic donors”, not by the state budget. Construction is to begin in September 2025 and be completed while Trump is still in office.
This initiative fulfills a long-standing dream of Donald Trump, who proposed a similar project 15 years earlier, during Barack Obama’s presidency, but did not receive support at the time. The new ballroom is meant to solve the problem of the lack of adequate event space at the White House for official ceremonies involving heads of state and other important guests.
