Trump gives Hamas an ultimatum

After a series of talks with the leaders of the Middle East and in the face of fragile conditions of ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, Trump announced that Hamas had received a clear ultimatum: disarmament or US intervention.

"If they refuse, we will disarm them ourselves – quickly and perhaps violently," said the president during a meeting with Argentine leader Javier Milei.

The American leader claims that Hamas had already accepted the terms of his "20-point peace plan" in which he was to give up his weapon and launch the Gaza reconstruction process. However, so far the organisation has not publicly confirmed that the plan will actually implement.

According to sources of the Agency Reuters and ABC News, Trump believes disarmament is a "key to lasting peace". In turn, experts warn that despite the truce and the exchange of prisoners, Hamas continues to strengthen power in the Gaza Strip and lead violent purges against political rivals.

According to the "Washington Post", however, the President of the United States did not specify a specific term, leaving the fate of the truce "in the hands of reason".

Gaza has a tense atmosphere. Despite American assurances of a "new era of peace", the media reports further executions and riots. Hamas strengthens control and residents are still waiting for a real improvement in living conditions.

Trump stresses that his policy aims at "rebuilding and stabilising the region" – but not without "full demilitisation of terrorist groups". As he said in one of his interviews, "There will be no peace until the weapon that destroys this room is gone."
