A symbolic moment at the top
On Monday, during an official visit to the White House, President of UkraineVolodymyr Zelenski handed Donald Trump a white envelope, simultaneously joking:"It's not for you". The letter was addressed from the Ukrainian first lady, Olena Zelenska, toMelania Trump. The whole situation sparked smiles among gathered politicians and journalists. For many it was one of the few light moments during – generally very serious – talks about the security and future of Ukraine.
Trump Pressure
At the moment, the meeting of Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenski in the White House in Washington, D.C., attended by European leaders. The meeting is crucial – Trump puts pressure on the conclusion of an agreement ending the war and discusses the possibility of new security guarantees for Ukraine, although these are not guarantees under Article 5 NATO.
President Trump confirmed that he would callVladimir Putin. If there is no common (tripartial) meeting with Putin and Zelenski, "the battles will continue", and if they succeed, there is a chance of "maybe the end of the war". Trump declared that the US would give Ukraine "very good protection, very good security", but the details remain unclear.
Donald Tump withdrew from earlier, sharp demands for an immediate ceasefire. He saidunderstands why neither side wants a truceand suggested that you could work on the room even during the fighting:"We can work out a peace agreement during ongoing fighting".
