City Kraków It will allocate nearly PLN 10 million to purchase apartments from the primary market. The programme aims to expand the resource of municipal housing for people in difficult material and life conditions (e.g. and support for "poor" developers).
The City Council has announced a call for offers from developers. The premises must be located in Krakow, have a surface area from 30 to 50 m2 and be ready to live (although housing in the development state is also allowed).
„Kraków He's going to buy housing units to increase the stock of municipal housing!
Apartments from the primary market, ranging from 30 to 50 sq m, located in Krakow, are being sought. By 15 July, you can submit offers to sell such apartments by 12 noon.
The city will allocate almost PLN 10 million to purchase the premises."
What's the city spending money on?
- Purchase of housing in the primary market directly from developers.
- Enlarge the municipal housing pool.
- The city plans to apply for funding from the Fund of Payments of Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego (up to 50% of the purchase costs).
Offers can be submitted online to July 15, 2026 to 12:00 p.m.. Details are available in the Krakow Public Information Bulletin.
Broader context
This is not the only action of the city in housing policy. Earlier, the Social Rental Agency (financed, among others, from EU funds) started, and next year, further investments in the Social Housing Initiative are planned.
The program appears when some developers have a problem selling housing due to high prices and more difficult availability of credit. Kraków thus supports the local market on the one hand, and on the other hand it expands its housing base for lower income residents.
What do you think of this solution? Is this a good way to fight the housing crisis, or is it a way to save developers from taxpayers' money? Let me know in a comment.
