President of the Republic of Poland Karol Nawrocki signed a resolution on the posthumous honour of the tragically deceased MP to the Polish Parliament Łukasz Karol Litewka. The decision was made on 27 April 2026 – only four days after the death of a 36-year-old.
Łukasz Litewka received Officer's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta (Polonia Restituta) – one of the highest state awards awarded for outstanding merits for the public good.
The designation is a response to a request made by 26 social organisations, mainly active in the protection of animals. The letter to the president highlighted the extraordinary charity and social activity of the MP – hundreds of spectacular collections for sick children, lone seniors and homeless animals.
"We are convinced that the posthumous distinction with the Officer's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta will be a deeply just and necessary gesture – not only as an act of justice towards the man who deserved it, but as a clear signal to the whole society" - the proposal states.
Łukasz Litewka died on 23 April 2026 in a bicycle accident on Kazimierzowska Street between Sosnowiec and Dąbrowa Górnicza. He was a member of the 10th term for New Left, Councillor Sosnowiec and founder of Team Litewka Foundation. He was known as an influencer politician and one of the most active charity activists in Poland.
The award was confirmed by President Rafał Leśkiewicz. The award will be presented to the family and close Member during the celebrations which will be announced in the coming days.
