On Saturday, 17 October, Father Patricio Alfredo Sánchez Molinari died in Guayaquil, Ecuador, after a cross hanging on the wall of the sanctuary fell on him during Mass. The incident was captured in a live broadcast, and the video is circulating online.
According to reports, including those by Gulf News, the priest was celebrating the service at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help church. The accident happened about 27 minutes after the Mass began, which was being streamed on social media. A large wooden cross broke away from the wall behind the altar and struck the priest.
Sánchez Molinari was the parish priest and a member of the Redemptorist congregation. The Archdiocese of Guayaquil confirmed his death in an official statement, extending condolences to his family, friends and the Redemptorist community. RMF FM also reported the news, citing Ecuadorian media.

The footage from the broadcast also began circulating in Polish online spaces on Sunday morning. Father Daniel Wachowiak wrote on X that the cross was poorly fastened and came off the wall.
