The court formally dismissed Edward Nowak's protest against the validity of the referendum in which the Krakowians dismissed President Alexander Miszaliski. Councilman Luke Gibala informed about this.
In the Facebook post Gibala wrote:
‘The referendum is important. The court formally dismissed Edward Nowak's protest. We are waiting for Donald Tusk to announce the election deadline. Enough filming, excuses and games on time – Krakowians have the right to elect the president of their city."
Background
A referendum on the dismissal of President Krakow was held on May 24, 2026. The residents decided to resign Alexander Miszaliski (KO). Since then, the city has been managed by the Commissioner appointed by the Prime Minister.
Edward Nowak challenged the validity of the referendum, pointing to violations of referendum silence. The Krakow District Court dismissed his protest in June, considering that the significant impact of the violations on the outcome of the vote had not been proven. After the complaint, the case went to second instance. Now – according to Gibala – the decision became final.
What's next?
The legitimacy of the outcome of the referendum opens the way to announce the early elections of President Krakow. The deadline should be set by Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
Łukasz Gibala, who won 49% of the vote in the second round of the presidential election in 2024, has been criticizing delays for weeks and demanding swift elections. Gibala has not yet announced his decision to run for President of Krakow.
