The Minister of Energy has set maximum fuel prices for Thursday, 29 October: Pb95 petrol up to PLN 6.53, Pb98 petrol up to PLN 7.37, and diesel up to PLN 8.20 per litre. Compared with Wednesday, Pb95 and diesel are cheaper, while Pb98 is more expensive.
Changes compared with Wednesday
The new caps result from the Minister of Energy’s notice of 28 October, published in the Monitor Polski official gazette. They apply from midnight on Thursday at all stations across the country. According to a summary by the Money.pl portal, on Wednesday 28 October the maximum prices were: Pb95 – PLN 6.55, Pb98 – PLN 7.24, diesel – PLN 8.28.
- Petrol 95: PLN 6.53 per litre, that is 2 groszy less than on Wednesday.
- Petrol 98: PLN 7.37 per litre, that is 13 groszy more.
- Diesel: PLN 8.20 per litre, that is 8 groszy less.
These are gross prices. As reported by „Rzeczpospolita”, the net limit is PLN 6.05 for Pb95 and PLN 6.83 for Pb98. These are limits, not average prices: stations may sell cheaper but not higher. According to RMF FM, the penalty for exceeding maximum prices can reach PLN 1 million.
Diesel still the most expensive
Despite Thursday’s reduction, diesel remains the most expensive of the three fuels. The day before, according to RMF FM, the limits for Tuesday 27 October were PLN 6.58 for Pb95, PLN 7.27 for Pb98 and PLN 8.18 for diesel. We wrote about them in an article on how petrol broke a streak of declines while diesel rose sharply. So on Thursday diesel is still higher than on Tuesday, while petrol 95 is lower.
For comparison, on Thursday 22 October the limits were PLN 6.79 for Pb95, PLN 7.56 for Pb98 and PLN 7.97 for diesel (according to a Motofakty summary). Since then, petrol 95 has become 26 groszy cheaper, while diesel has become 23 groszy more expensive.
Wholesale and the CPN programme
As Motoguru reports, Orlen’s wholesale price list changed on Wednesday: petrol 95 became PLN 18 per m³ cheaper (to PLN 5,746 net), petrol 98 rose by PLN 120 per m³ (to PLN 6,525), and Ekodiesel fell by PLN 71 per m³ (to PLN 7,293). The direction of these changes matches Thursday’s limits.
The maximum prices are part of the third stage of the „Ceny Paliwa Niżej” (CPN) package. According to Interia, it has been in force since 3 October and is set to run until 31 December 2026. It includes, among other things, temporarily reduced VAT and excise duty. The mechanism was launched after the provisions of the act on the windfall tax on fuel companies entered into force, which President Karol Nawrocki signed on 1 October (Money.pl).
What it means for drivers
For a full 50-litre tank, the maximum bill on Thursday will be about PLN 326.50 for Pb95 (PLN 1 less than on Wednesday), about PLN 368.50 for Pb98 (PLN 6.50 more) and about PLN 410 for diesel (PLN 4 less). The difference between Pb95 and diesel at this fill-up is about PLN 83.50. The next notice, with limits for Friday 30 October, is expected on Thursday. Actual prices at stations may be lower than the limits.
