Donald Tusk announced the closure of all border crossings with Belarus. The decision is a response to rising tensions and a threat to Poland’s security.
The Prime Minister announced that the reason is the start of the Russian-Belarusian military exercises „Zapad” right near the Polish border. Tusk stressed that the activities are aimed at a critical NATO security area, including the Suwałki Gap, which raises real concerns about the stability of the region.

What does the border closure look like?
The decision covers all crossings, including rail crossings. The regulation takes effect at midnight on Thursday. This is the first such situation in Poland’s recent history: the border is being closed not only for migration-related reasons, but also in response to a real military threat.
