A special military aircraft carrying 24-year-old Klaudia Uciechowska landed in Poland. The woman from Wałbrzych, who had been fighting for her life in a hospital in Beijing for several weeks, has been placed under the care of doctors at the 4th Military Clinical Hospital with Polyclinic in Wrocław.
As Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz announced:
„The medical evacuation from China has been completed. Ms. Klaudia is now under the care of doctors at the 4th Military Clinical Hospital with Polyclinic in Wrocław.”
The defence minister thanked everyone involved in organising the rescue operation, including Major Dr. Marcin Kunicki and the military paramedics from the Medical Evacuation Team of the 8th Air Transport Base in Kraków, as well as the crew of the special aircraft from the 1st Air Transport Base in Warsaw.
Klaudia Uciechowska, a sinology student, travelled to China to pursue her educational dreams. In April she was admitted to a hospital in Beijing in serious condition, and doctors diagnosed serious complications related to an ovarian teratoma. For many weeks she remained in a pharmacologically induced coma.
Thanks to Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz’s decision and the efficient work of military medics, the 24-year-old was taken today to one of the best specialist hospitals in Poland, where she will continue treatment in the intensive care unit.
The minister expressed hope that under the care of Wrocław doctors Klaudia will recover quickly and be able to return to her family and loved ones.
All of Poland is keeping its fingers crossed for the young woman from Wałbrzych as she continues her fight.
