Kraków Airport. Fog rewinds Balice, first flights diverted

The dense fog is once again reflected by passengers travelling through Kraków Airport. In the evening, the plane from Paris failed to land in the Balic Islands, which could bring more disruption to air traffic. Details below – we check what is happening and how it affects travellers.

What happened? More Obstructions

According to the arrival board on Kraków Airport, evening flights encountered problems due to bad weather conditions. The most affected was the flight of Polish Airlines LOT from Paris Orly (ORY) with the number LO 338, scheduled for 22:50 p.m. The plane was diverted to Warsaw, which means that passengers had to continue their journey from Chopin airport.

Other flights at that time, such as:

  • FR 5534 from Brussels Charleroi (CRL) — expected at 10:36 p.m.,
  • FR 8700 from Dublin (DUB) – expected at 22:45,
  • LH 1370 from Frankfurt (FRA) — expected at 10:43,
  • KL 1331 from Amsterdam (AMS) – expected at 10:39,
  • FR 6233 from Palermo (PMO) – expected at 23:01,

for now, land as planned or with minimum delays. However, the absence of an official airport message suggests that the situation may deteriorate, especially if the fog persists overnight. In recent days similar weather conditions have resulted in numerous diversions and cancellations of flights, including Katowice, Ostrava or Budapest.

Cause: Autumn Fog in Intensity

Fog is a common problem in the Kraków region in autumn and winter, especially in the Balic region, where the area is conducive to the formation of dense clouds. Tonight, visibility fell below the safe limits for landings, which forced controllers to make a decision on redirections. The temperature oscillates around 0°C, and the cloud is complete – ideal conditions for such weather. Meteorologists predict that the fog can hold until morning, which could paralyze morning departures and arrivals.

Earlier incidents, such as those on November 4, 16 or 28, show that this is not the first time – the airport has had to deal with similar disruptions repeatedly, rerouting flights from Ryanair, Wizz Air and other carriers.

Do what? Advice for Passengers

If you plan to travel through Kraków Airport, do not ignore warnings! Here are some practical tips:

  • Check flight status: Use official website krakowairport.pl or mobile application.
  • Contact: In the case of LOT, Ryanair or Lufthansa, contact directly – they can offer alternative connections or compensation.
  • Prepare for delays: Take extra things with you, like a charger or snacks, in case you wait longer.
  • Follow social media: Profiles Kraków Airport on Facebook or X (old Twitter) often publish updates in real time.

Background: Common Problem in the Balic Islands

Kraków Airport, serving millions of passengers a year, regularly faces fog, especially during the autumn-winter season. In October and November 2025, several days have already been reported with serious disturbances, including cancellations of flights to Italy, Spain and Germany. The airport invests in modern navigation systems, but nature still wins.

Update 23:25 a.m.

Kraków Airport faces a dense fog which in the evening of November 29, 2025 caused further disruptions in air traffic – after prior rerouting the flight of LOT LO 338 from Paris Orly to Warsaw, the airport issued a current announcement of additional changes.
