Military qualification 2027: Ministry of Defence sets out who will be called before commissions

The military qualification for 2027 will be announced on 15 January, and the commissions will work from 1 February to 30 April. This follows a regulation of the Minister of National Defence dated 31 August 2026, which takes effect on 4 September.

The Regulation of the Minister of National Defence on conducting military qualification in 2027 was published in the Journal of Laws on 3 September under item 1169. The deadline is therefore no longer a ministry draft but a binding legal provision. This is about qualification, not conscription: it is an administrative procedure in which a category of fitness for service is determined and data is entered into the military records. Appearing before a commission does not mean being drafted into the army.

Who is obliged to appear

According to the regulation, the following will have to report to the commissions:

  • men born in 2008 (the basic birth year),
  • men born in 2003–2007 who do not have a determined category of fitness for active military service,
  • persons recognised in 2025–2026 as temporarily unfit for service, if the period of unfitness expires before the end of qualification (or after its end, if they applied for a change of category),
  • women born in 2000–2008 who hold qualifications useful in the military or are studying to obtain them, and who finish their studies in designated professions in the 2026/2027 school or academic year, provided they have not previously reported for qualification.

According to announcements cited by the media, including PAP, this concerns about 245,000 people in total. The ministry’s assumptions indicate that the largest group will be men born in 2008. Volunteers who have turned 18 may also report to the commissions. According to some publications, this applies to people under 60 years of age without a military category.

Deadlines and organisation

The qualification will be announced on 15 January 2027. The commissions will operate from 1 February to 30 April 2027. Overall supervision of the qualification rests with the minister of defence, while day-to-day supervision is exercised by voivodes. Detailed schedules for individual localities are to be set by the relevant public administration bodies. According to the draft regulation’s assumptions, two or three commissions are to work simultaneously within the area of one military recruitment centre. About PLN 59.3 million has been planned for organising the undertaking (data from the draft regulation).

Those summoned receive a category of fitness for service, including A (fit) or B (temporarily unfit). The category is entered into the military records.

What it means

Men born in 2008 should expect a summons at the beginning of 2027. Older men born in 2003–2007 should check whether they already have an assigned category. If not, they may be summoned. People recognised as temporarily unfit in the last two years must keep track of the validity date of their medical certificate. Women in fields useful to the military, such as medical ones, should check whether the rules apply to them, as the list of fields and professions is set out in separate regulations. The date and place of appearance are given in the summons, which is issued by local government bodies, so it is worth following announcements from the gmina or starosta’s office. A full explanation of the obligations is available in the regulation in the Journal of Laws (Dz.U. 2026 item 1169).
