The tragic incident occurred on Monday, 28 July 2025, when two teenage brothers entered the sea in Dziwnowek – just under a dozen or so kilometres from Niechorze. Despite warnings and a red flag, the boys decided to swim in difficult conditions. Only one of them returned to the shore.
The evening search had to be halted due to rough seas and high waves. On Tuesday the operation was resumed, but the boy – 16-year-old Marcel – was still considered missing.

It was only late in the evening of 29 July, at around 8 p.m., that the emergency services were notified that the sea had washed a body ashore in Niechorze. Police and the family of the missing teenager rushed to the scene immediately. The body was confirmed to be that of the sought-after Marcel.
