Three-year-old hit during rescue demonstration at Jedlicze kindergarten dies in hospital

A three-year-old boy struck on Monday, 19 October, on the grounds of a kindergarten in Jedlicze died on Friday in a hospital in Rzeszów, Polsat News reported. The prosecutor’s office in Krosno is investigating the incident.

According to Polsat News, doctors were unable to save the child, who had been taken to hospital after an accident during a medical rescue demonstration. The death was also reported by the tabloid „Fakt”. As of publication, we had not seen a statement from the prosecutor’s office or the hospital on the matter.

What happened in Jedlicze

The accident happened on Monday, 19 October, at around 11 a.m. on the grounds of the Municipal Kindergarten in Jedlicze (Krosno County, Podkarpackie Voivodeship). As spokeswoman for the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Krosno, Marta Kolendowska-Matejczuk, explained, first aid demonstrations organised by the State University of Applied Sciences (PANS) in Krosno were taking place on the premises. During them, a demonstration vehicle struck a three-year-old child, who was taken with serious injuries to a hospital in Rzeszów, krosno112.pl reports.

In a statement, the university confirmed that its lecturers and medical rescue students were holding classes at the kindergarten’s invitation. The outdoor sessions involved a teaching ambulance. The rector assured cooperation with the services; the detailed circumstances were not known at that time (TVP Rzeszów).

Investigation and detentions

The District Prosecutor’s Office in Krosno opened an investigation into endangering others and negligently causing serious bodily harm. The driver of the vehicle and two carers from the kindergarten were detained. Prosecutors said that all of them were sober, and that no charges had been presented to anyone as of Tuesday. An expert in road accidents took part in the scene inspection.

Following the child’s death, the legal classification of the act may change, but prosecutors have not yet announced any such decision. It is also unclear whether those detained remain at the disposal of investigators. The rzeszow-info.pl portal reported that the Independent Public Emergency Medical Service (SPPR) in Krosno and the Visionary Foundation had denied reports that their ambulances and crews were involved in the accident.

What is not known

It has not been publicly established how the collision happened, who was driving the vehicle, or what its status was (the university’s teaching ambulance). The child’s identity has not been disclosed, and the family has not spoken publicly. The case involves a minor and an investigation is ongoing, so no one can be assumed to be at fault until the prosecutor’s findings are established.
