A massive fire is engulfing residential blocks in Ząbki near Warsaw. Hundreds of residents have been forced to leave their homes, and firefighting efforts are still ongoing. The situation is serious and fast-changing.
Scale of the Ząbki Fire – What Happened?
On Thursday, July 3, at around 7:30 p.m., a fire broke out in the attic of a block at 62 Powstańców Street in Ząbki, just outside Warsaw. The fire spread very quickly to the roof and upper floors, reaching as many as three buildings on the Kopernika housing estate. Flames and billowing black smoke were visible from afar, and dramatic footage and photos spread across social media.
Rescue Operation – Coordinated Emergency Services Response
Numerous fire brigade units arrived at the scene immediately. At the peak of the operation, as many as 150 firefighters from 26 State Fire Service (PSP) and Volunteer Fire Brigade (OSP) units, supported by 6 mechanical ladders, were battling the blaze. Units were brought in from neighbouring counties, and the Commander-in-Chief of the State Fire Service arrived at the scene. Police officers and paramedics also took part in the operation. The response was hampered by dense development, strong winds, and cars parked nearby that blocked access for further units.
Evacuation of Residents
The danger was serious enough that several hundred people were evacuated, both from the burning blocks and from neighbouring buildings. Residents found temporary shelter at Primary School No. 3 in Ząbki.
Fortunately, according to the latest information, there are no reports of injured people. However, the material damage is serious – a significant part of the roofs, attics and apartments has burned. The fire reached even the cellars, and pieces of roofing fell to the ground, adding to the danger.
Authorities are urging residents to stay indoors and keep their windows closed, as dust concentration in the air has exceeded the norm threefold.
